Biography...
Michelle Rofrano is a conductor based in New York City. She completed conducting studies at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore with Marin Alsop, Gustav Meier, and Markand Thakar.
With a strong background in opera, Rofrano has led has led productions of Trouble in Tahiti with The Glimmerglass Festival; Così fan tutte and the Turn of the Screw with DC Public Opera; Così fan tutte with the Oberlin in Italy opera festival; Suor Angelica with the New Jersey Opera Project; and Le Nozze di Figaro in concert with the Peabody Conservatory. Rofrano currently assists at Florida Grand Opera, joining them for La Bohéme and Le Nozze di Figaro during the 2018-19 season. She previously served as assistant conductor for productions of The Cunning Little Vixen and Silent Night with The Glimmerglass Festival; Eugene Onegin with Spoleto Festival USA; La Boheme with Opera Birmingham; and Madama Butterfly with Lyric Opera Baltimore.
Rofrano enjoys working with youth orchestras and strongly believes in the importance of music education. She has previously served as assistant conductor for the New York Youth Symphony, where she co-taught the NYYS conducting program. She was assistant conductor with The Little Orchestra Society in New York City for the 2017-18 season, during which time she conducted multiple outreach concerts and led music education programs in various NYC public schools. She will join the CJMEA youth orchestra as guest conductor for a program in early 2019.
