Biography...

Liliana Duque Piñeiro is both a sculptor and a scenic designer.  Upcoming operatic productions include Don Giovanni at Minnesota Opera, Il Postino for Virginia Opera, which will also be produced at Chicago Opera Theatre and Opera Southwest,  the world premiere of Sweet Potato kicks the Sun for Santa Fe Opera, and Thumbprint, Tosca, and Mother of us all for Chautauqua Opera.  Most recently, she designed the world premiere of If I were you by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer for the Merola Opera Program,  Maria de Buenos Aires for San Diego Opera and Arizona Opera.  She has also designed  La Flauta Mágica de los Andes for Teatro Sucre in Quito, Ecuador, Orpheus and Euridice by Ricky Ian Gordon for The Vermont Opera Project, and La Cage aux Follies and Powder her Face for Skylight Opera Theatre. Dido and Aeneas for Opera Piccola San Antonio, Candide and 110 in the Shade for the Douglass Morrisson Theatre, Carousel at Ash Lawn Opera, Waiting for Godot at the Marin Theater Company,  Xerxes with West Edge Opera, Eccentricities of a Nightingale with the Aurora Theatre, and Wild Kate, As you like it, and Litter ACT Conservatory season, where she previously designed Riot and Volleygirls. Liliana is equally at home with opera having  designed L'Elisir d'Amore for Teatro Sucre in Quito, Ecuador where she also designed Sweeney Todd, Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Carmen, and Dido and Aeneas. For Opera de Colombia in Bogotá, Colombia she has designed La nozze di Figaro, Madama Butterfly, Don Pasquale, and La Vie Parisienne. Other professional credits include The Beautiful and Forbidden: a Concert of Censored Opera for the Cincinnati Opera and Mud and The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World for the Cutting Ball Theater in San Francisco
Liliana received her undergraduate degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in 1997. In 1999, she came to the US on a Fulbright scholarship to continue her artistic studies. She holds a MFA in Sculpture and an MFA in Set Design from the University of Cincinnati. Liliana currently lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her work is a combination of sculpture and set design.
